Quite a weekend!
Need a quiet week of work and school to rest up from what happened from the end of Friday through yesterday!
Friday night: We were more observant of it being the Easter season than of it being a Friday as a local seafood restaurant had a deal on all-you-can-eat king crab legs. Being 1000 miles from the ocean, we don’t usually get the best seafood here and what we do get tends to be overpriced. This, though, was an exception. Quite a pleasant evening.
Saturday: My cousin from Alaska came with her husband and lots of pictures. This cousin is a few years older than me, so her children are grown and out of the house. Saw lots of photographic evidence that another first cousin in southern Alaska is a dead ringer for me, but for the fact that he’s tall (~6’5”) and something of an outdoorsman. Found out that this particular cousin has also crossed the Tiber (Alleluia!). Figured out that some of the old German books (a Bible, a Psalter and a book of rather schmaltzy religious poetry) in the basement first belonged to my great-great-great-great –great-great-great-grandfather who was one of the first Mennonite bishops in North America. In the evening we had a third couple join us for shish kebab on the grill – yummy!
Sunday – After Mass took a drive in the mountains to a site where my cousin, her folks, my folks, my grandparents and I had picnicked roughly thirty years ago. Also stopped in a mountain town and took a photo on a locomotive where there had been a picture with my grandparents, my parents and me about thirty-five years ago. Then more old photos and stories for hours on end.
Today I got the most important part of this week’s most important task done (something involving a friend), but I can’t get to the second part until tomorrow. You probably don’t know what all that’s about, though.
“But a coarse old man am I, I choose the second-best”
