Last night I attended a friend’s son’s birthday party. The little fellow turned 8. Watching him and his friends, I saw all sorts of nearly forgotten behaviors from my own childhood. Amazing to see how much the little guy has grown up over the past could of years.

Of course the birthday boy has plenty of his father’s mannerisms. In ways conscious and unconscious, he imitates his father, sometimes very well indeed. So should it be with us and our heavenly Father. Particularly in echoing the English prayer “Thou art the God whose property is ever to have mercy”.

May God grant me grace to put aside childish things and imitate Him.
