Vita Brevis

. . . so get with it!

See, it’s really my job to be paranoid.

My job is to parse the contracts our customers propose and describe all the things that could go wrong. I have to find the dark clouds for every silver lining. Being a bit of a contrarian by nature anyway, that fits me pretty well.

The firestorm over Senator Santorum’s remarks and many other relatively recent comments about some of the differences between the contemporary West and Arab culture prompted some rather dark thoughts on my part. Here’s hoping I’m just engaging in wildly speculative pessimism, but here goes.

Just as World War I started as a clash between two blocs of mercantile empires but eventually became the war to “make the world safe for democracy”, the current war on Islamofascism could eventually be framed as the war to “make the world safe for sodomy” (er, if that word isn’t banished from the surface of the earth). When pro-homosexual activists complained about western involvement in the Arab world, even ostensibly conservative commentators would approvingly cite western lenience toward homosexuals in pointing out the inconsistency between supporting preferential treatment for homosexuals in the west while supporting the maintenance of regimes in other countries where homosexual conduct is still a capital offense. Earlier this week came reports that one of the President’s closest advisors was meeting with homosexual activists. Nothing good can come of that. If things continue down this path, it won’t be long before Christians in America are facing a major persecution.
